Why are PC games not used to gauge the best 'all round gamer'?

PC games are starting to fade into obsecurity, due to modifications, aimbots, and hacks that would ruin any game. Believe me, MW2 for the PC has become complete crap right now without anything to keep the multiplayer fighting pure.

Well maybe on console there are less variables... I mean seriously ... Driving games should be played with a steering wheel (even though i am using the arrow keys :)) Guitar Hero and other so called "games" should be played on an xbox or w/e... Fighting games... hell yeah ... bring the pad... But for shooters... a console? that's like playing Counter Strike on a keyboard that has ghosting problems AND a 2-button mouse... Here's where the true gamer shows up! The ability to set your sensitivity as quickly as possible and to also get used to it. The ability to use more keys at the same time then the whole xbox360 pad has and all of them for 1 frag (or more) + a defuse Plus tons of other things... All of you wannabe pro gamers please keep in mind that before the console ... there was the PC ... and it was here for a loooooong time... and guess what... it's still very popular and it will still be here for a really-really-really-really-REALLY LONG TIME. just because the games first appear on xbox (or at least most of them... very few game developers/publishers still have the decency to remember where they have started), and you (owner of console) get to play it faster than PC users doesnt make you pro games just because you play (guitar hero) shooter games (cough*@&%#$^!@&%^#*cough) on a skill-diminishing, wannabe-creator console. YES I ADMIT! The ultimate games MUST know how to play the same game on both PC (it's a must have for a gamer - u don't have it, u're not a gamer - PERIOD!) AND at least 1 console (PS2/3, xbox etc... - but just to get the "ultimate"). YES i ADMIT! I do not think of myself as an ultimate gamer... hell not even a gamer... i just enjoy playing games on my PC (!!!!). Certain types of games... games that i should have played on a steering wheel (NFS series - only racing game that i actually enjoy) or a console (the list gets bigger here... GTA IV, Mafia II, PoP, Assassins Creed etc...) or your Ye Olde keyboard and mouse (and most importantly a PC... with separate components... that heat up, and need cooling, and upgrades...) I do hope someone smacks you people to your senses, you are an embarrassment to the gaming community Cheers, Alex from Romania

haha, wow, I posted this so long ago and never thought it would get this kind of attention. @Cruelseeker - Let's agree to disagree. I understand what you're saying, when you say "It's easy on PC." you mean "It's easy on PC for someone to own someone else." I agree with the owning part, but I don't agree at all with how console is in any way more complicated. And if I had a choice I'd choose to watch the top PC gamers vs the top Console gamers in ANNNNY game (Except fighting and strategy games, genres which clearly favor PC or console.) that is out for both PC and console. @Matt - When you learn to read and predict the future inaccurately I will take notes on what you say. Thankfully you're half way there! If you're gonna make such a small post put an ounce of thought into it maybe? @Johannes /mostlyagree - It's a joke to me, but it's also a step in the right direction for e-sports in general. And as I fan, I cannot complain. (Much :)) @Qwoffi /agree /impressed (Even if it is Madden) @Everyone who called out Beto - Thank you. I hate when someone rants like I'm the one void of thought. I was void of future, as in, NOT clairvoyant. I'm sorry my lack of physic ability has offended you Beto, and I will chance a radioactive mishap to amend this. Super powers here I come! Seriously dude, capitalizing things I am literally not supposed to care about. "MEETINGS AND CONTRACTS AND" If you call your show the ultimate gamer and have 1 PC game over 2 seasons you haven't backed up the ultimate gamer standard in some people's opinion. Do I care that Fallout New Vegas was basically released unfinished, or do I empathize with how hard their road is? If you answered 'empathy' you're incorrect imo. I don't care how hard it was to make the show, there are obvious ways it could be better.

TsoBadGuy the reason they use a consol is simple very very simple. As you stated it is easyer to shoot someone out of a window with ease on a PC but now look at it this way. Lets just say for speculation that someone played CODMW2 the whole time it's been out on consol but they also are lightly familir with the control on the PC. Then it would be nothing but a way to easy trandition so basically someone who cant kill anyone or anything can go to getting a Nuke in their first game. It's just to easy with a PC. I'm not dissin the PC cuz I used to play PC alot but Consol just take more effort there for making it the more complicated and better choice when trying to decide who has the greater skill.

This show IS for entertainment but that doesnt mean it has a scripted finish. Every interview the gamers do they say the games have real rules ahead of time and no one has disputed any results (except for someone from last season but the general opinion seems to be he's a full-of-bs attention seeker) and your thing about all products being fair game in a competition? why don't you familiarize yourself with some actual competitive gaming competitions and get an idea of how the industry works. WCG sponsors the show and Samsung sponsors WCG and Samsung is the GARY-MFKING-OAK RIVAL of Sony. Why would Samsung put Sony shit on their show? The only benefit would be the addition of Sony-exclusive titles like....MAG? Killzone? SOOOOO not even worth it.

1exicon posted on Sept. 26, 2010, 8:45 p.m.

@Beto_Machado: A competition like this does not *have* to only use products that sponsor WCG. In fact, if they do only use products that sponsor WCG, then that makes them less valid as a judge of "best all around gamer." They can use any game, any system, any company, any product, any logo that they want, because it is a competition. If it was a standard TV show for pure entertainment, you would be correct. But, it is not. (Or, at least, it presents itself as a competition, and not a scripted show with a pre-determined finish.) I do understand that getting these sponsors helps to pay for the show. But, they do not have to limit the contest to only those products, as you claim.

Victor Long posted on Sept. 26, 2010, 6:52 p.m.

and yes beto it does that is why they just have brand new games that are looking for relatively cheap publicity as opposed to serious games that have been around a while. The only skill game imo that has been out there was the pc game and you saw the difference in who is an actual competitive gamer. If kat or yaz doesnt win i will be dissapointed.

qwoffi posted on Sept. 25, 2010, 4:42 p.m.

It is kind of a joke. Almost any console game you can play for about a week and if you are an experienced gamer can be a top tier player in a couple of days, there is quite a low skill cap. compare that to the broodwar sc2 scene or cs source or top end wow pvp etc there is so little depth in console games that are meant to be replaced within a year. Case in point i have not bought a madden game since 2003 til a month ago yet got 2nd in a regional tourney last week.

qwoffi posted on Sept. 25, 2010, 4:40 p.m.

Mark won 1st season. Mark is a pc gamer. Yaz is going to win 2nd season. Yaz is a pc gamer. Take notes.

Just to make things clear: If you don't think this show is a joke then you are deluded. This show is not about true, hardcore gaming, it's about wimpy gaming. Crappy sports games, the Wii for god sake! Hardcore gaming: RTS (Starcraft, Warcraft 3, Command and Conquer); FPS (Counter-Strike, MW2, Battlefield); PVP games (DotA, League of Legends, HoN) and Fighting Games (DoA, Tekken, Street Fighter) Instead this show plays games like Wii Sports, Racing, Sports games, Music games AND CELL PHONE GAMES??? All casual garbage. They take little to no skill. Compare Korean Starcraft pros like Flash, Jae Dong, Bisu and such to these no-skill casual gamers. The only people on this show I respect are the ones that come from Fighting or FPS background, and Geoff from Season 1 is hands down the most skilled gamer that has ever been on this show because he comes from Starcraft 1. This is simple fact. This show has NOTHING to do with skill. It's just product placement. They are advertising for Sony's products and for the games that are played on the show. That's it. If this was about the most sklled gamers we would actually be seeing REAL GAMERS playing REAL GAMES that take REAL SKILL.

I was supposed to know the future? :P Glad they have a PC game upcoming. Although, I believe it deserves more than 1 episode, but I am pleased all the same.

TsoBadGuy posted on Sept. 19, 2010, 4:05 a.m.

In this thread: people that don't stop to think. a) This season DOES have PC games. b) You can't just grab a game and use it on a tv show. You need SPONSORS and CONTRACTS. This season they have a PC sponsor, so they can have PCs on the show. This season they have a PC game sponsoring the show, so they can have a PC game on the show. First season there were no PC sponsors and Nintendo wasn't involved. Now they are. That stuff takes MEETINGS AND AGREEMENTS AND CONTRACTS (plus a lot of back and forth). I swear some people here have never gotten a job in their lives to be asking obvious stuff like this.

Beto_Machado posted on Sept. 11, 2010, 4:29 p.m.

Do you people even watch the show? They have already said there will be a PC game this year.

blackmacrokid posted on Sept. 11, 2010, 12:11 p.m.

I agree with you too. They shoud include a PC game in this years Ultimate Gamer. I am new to PC gameing but have been playing on the console for the longest time, and all around players do play a PC too. Ad the PC can offer things that a console can not.

DrizzitDrow posted on Sept. 11, 2010, 1 a.m.

I really like this post, an all around gamer plays console and PC, I am pretty sure there will be a game played on the PC this year. As for the same note you can't be an Ultimate Gamer if all you play is PC. Also all PC players aren't God like some are bad to, I play MW2 on 360 and have killed people jumping from windows plenty of times. All in all PC gaming is definitely a different field then console but saying one is better then the other is just stupid. Also Geoff couldn't have won even if Starcraft was on there he lacked all around skills on a competitive level.

blackmacrokid posted on Sept. 10, 2010, 8:41 p.m.

Call me old fashioned, but I think someone who has won multiple Starcraft tourneys being seen as 'less' of a gamer in any way than someone who plays guitar hero is so sad it's laughable. I would Geoff he spent more time on Starcraft than any other player did on their respective specialty. That's not based on the people, or the show, just the nature of the games they came from. Alas, the show is not 'who's the best at starcraft' it is, 'who is the best all round gamer'. So my main point is, how can you ignore PC games and call someone the best 'all round gamer'. To me, you simply can't. So far, from what I understand, the best all round gamer, is really just a console gamer. PC games control better than Console games across the board, but I have to watch MW2 on console??? If you're next to a window and someone falls from that window, he falls FASTER than you can aim. If you think the console version of MW2 is funner to watch for the common person you're sadly disillusioned. It's literally the same thing, with less player control on console. Think about how awesome someone looks getting a great shot at someone falling out of a window, RIGHT next to them, and how improbable the same thing is on console. You have to realize at some point how much of this stuff IS NOT conducive with being an 'all round gamer'. If playing ANNNNNNY PC game was better practice for WCG than Wii sports, I would start to recognize the winner as an actual "all round gamer" For all the skill you have in the cast it's sad they compete at such a casual level in so few fields. I wanna watch people compete, not figure out cell phone games/wii sports/ very very very casual games. I want these people to actually prove to me they're the best all round gamer. Sadly, I'll never buy the title 'best all round gamer' when such casual games are played over extremely competitive PC games.
